Sirsa: A youth died under suspicious circumstances in the custody of the Anti Narcotics Cell. The family members accused the police of murder, created a ruckus at the Civil Hospital and blocked the road in front of the hospital. The family members demanded action against the accused police officers. On receiving information about the incident, Pradeep Kumar and DSP Jagat Singh Mor reached the spot. He explained it to the family, after which the family agreed to an autopsy. The autopsy was conducted in the presence of the judge, after which the family members lifted the blockade.

The family members of the deceased claim that Akashdeep was alone at home on Thursday while the anti-narcotics officials raided the house and forcibly took him away. Family members say that Akashdeep used to work as a painter. Sukhdev Singh, late Akashdeep’s maternal uncle, says that Akashdeep was arrested by the police some time ago in a drug smuggling case, but Akashdeep was living at home since then. Akashdeep’s friend Balbir says we both used to work together but police took Akashdeep away from home illegally. He had nothing to do with drug smuggling. A police spokesman said that the post-mortem was carried out under the supervision of the judge and that further action would be taken only after the report was submitted.

It is noteworthy that the Sirsa Anti-Drugs Cell team patrolled Sadar police station on Thursday. Meanwhile, the police arrested three youths and during the search, 12 grams of heroin was recovered from them. The accused were Akash and Gurpreet from Chak Sahiba village and Ajay from Hisar. It is said that Akash’s health deteriorated during his detention due to a drug overdose. He was taken to Civil Hospital for treatment where he died. The true cause of death will be known only after the autopsy report.
