Rescue of Indian stranded in Sudan continues, third batch of 135 people reached Jeddah

Operation Kaveri: A fierce civil war is raging in the African country of Sudan. There is a struggle for power between the country’s army and paramilitary groups. Operation Kaveri is being run by the Government of India to evacuate Indian citizens from violence-hit Sudan. According to Sudan’s Ministry of Health, at least 424 people have died and around 3,730 have been injured in the violence.

As per the latest updates, an IAF C-130J aircraft carrying 135 Indians from Port Sudan reached the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah early on Wednesday morning. Operation Cauvery This was the third batch evacuated from war-torn Sudan under the MoS V Muraleedharan in the Ministry of External Affairs said that the Government of India would soon facilitate the return of these Indian citizens to the country.

Earlier this morning the first IAF C-130J aircraft under Operation Kaveri landed in Jeddah along with 148 Indian nationals from Port Sudan. V Muraleedharan tweeted, “The third batch of 135 Indians from Port Sudan arrived in Jeddah by IAF C-130J aircraft. Onward journey to India for all who arrived in Jeddah will begin shortly.” Earlier he tweeted that the first IAF C-130J aircraft carrying 148 Indians landed in Jeddah under #OperationKaveri from Port Sudan.

The first batch of Indians stranded in Sudan were evacuated on Tuesday under Operation Kaveri. INS Sumedha left Port Sudan for Jeddah with 278 on board. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday said that India has launched Operation Kaveri to evacuate its citizens stranded in war-torn Sudan. So far more than 500 Indian ports have reached Sudan. Jaishankar said the government is committed to helping all our brothers in Sudan. The government said it is focusing on the safety and security of over 3,000 Indian nationals currently living across Sudan.

A power struggle between the two main factions of the country’s military regime has sparked violence in Sudan, resulting in several deaths and injuries in Khartoum and other cities. The regular army and the main paramilitary force Rapid Support Force (RSF) are involved in the conflict. There is a situation of civil war in the whole country.
