Gas Leak In Mathura: Major negligence has come to light in the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) office premises in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh. Actually, chlorine gas leaked from the cylinder kept in the CMO office here. The health of at least 10 girl students has deteriorated due to exposure to chlorine gas after the leak. There was a stir as soon as the health of the girl students deteriorated. There was chaos on the spot. The girl students had to be immediately admitted to the hospital. On information, two fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. After about an hour of effort, the leakage of chlorine gas could be stopped.

Gas leaked due to rust in cylinder

According to fire department personnel, about 20 years ago water was supplied to the district hospital from the pump house located next to the CMO office. When a pump house was built in the district hospital, the water supply from here stopped. Since then the pump house has remained closed. Two cylinders filled with 100 kg each of chlorine were kept in it. No one paid attention for many years and the cylinder started leaking due to rust.

Gas leak stopped after much effort

Due to excessive gas leakage, the gas spread around the CMO office. People started feeling suffocation along with burning sensation in the eyes and sore throat. Due to this, about 10 girl students studying in the nursing hostel fainted. After receiving the information, fire personnel reached the spot and started efforts to stop the leakage of chlorine gas from the cylinder. According to the information, in about an hour the workers entered inside and stopped the leakage of gas by putting the cylinder in a drum filled with water.

There was gas leakage on Thursday evening also

According to media reports, it is said that there was a leakage of chlorine gas on Thursday evening also. After this the CMO informed and called the fire brigade. Both the chlorine cylinders kept in the pump house were not checked properly.
