The last rites of Shiromani Akali Dal patriarch and five-time Chief Minister of Punjab Parkash Singh Badal will be performed today at his native Badal in Muktsar district of the state. Today at 1 pm Prakash Singh Badal’s last rites will be held at 1 pm today. His dead body is kept at his house from 9 am to 12 noon, so that people can pay their last respects. Badal died on Tuesday at the age of 95 in a private hospital in Mohali. He was admitted to the hospital seven days back.

PM Modi had last darshan

On Wednesday, from 10 am to 12 noon, the mortal remains of Parkash Singh Badal were kept at Shiromani Akali Dal office Chandigarh for last darshan, after which he was taken to his native village. Leaders of political parties condoled the demise of Badal. Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi) had also reached Chandigarh for his last darshan. During this, he said that the death of Parkash Singh Badal is a personal loss. He was a great personality of Indian politics, who contributed a lot for the country.

Police made strict security arrangements

On the occasion of the last rites of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, strict security arrangements have been made by the Punjab government and the district administration. Police of four districts have been deployed in the village of Parkash Singh Badal. Along with this, the route towards the village has also been diverted.

Political career of Prakash Singh Badal

Parkash Singh Badal, a five-time CM of Punjab, had the distinction of being the youngest Chief Minister in Punjab at the age of 43. Parkash Singh Badal served as the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1970–71, 1977–80, 1997–2002 and 2007–2017. He is survived by his wife Surinder Kaur Badal, son Sukhbir Singh Badal and daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal. Badal was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award, in 2015, but returned the award in December 2020, protesting against the farm laws brought in by the central government.
