Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij has once again taken a tough stance and directed to suspend 372 Investigating Officers (IOs). Vij has written a letter to the Director General of Police in this regard. He said information was also sought in this regard by writing a letter to the Additional Secretary General, Ministry of Home Affairs on May 11, 2023. He informed that 372 Investigating Officers (IOs) have been suspended in different districts of the state. These include 60 IOs in Gurugram, Faridabad 32, Panchkula 10, Ambala 30, Yamunanagar 57, Karnal 31, Panipat 3, Hisar 14, Sirsa 66, Jind 24, Rewari 5, Rohtak 31 and 9 in Sonipat.

According to the letter addressed to the Director General of Police, Vij said that he had been asked several times for expeditious disposal of the FIRs registered in the state. Last month, I had directed that an explanation should be sought from all IOs who have not disposed of FIRs for a year. The number of these cases was very high and was over around 3229.

Vij in the letter expressed regret that “despite his instructions, there are still 372 IOs who have not finally disposed of the cases and whose justification is not satisfactory. They are not in a position to advise people to respond to their complaints.” . They are forced to migrate from one place to another which is a very serious matter and cannot be ignored.

The Home Minister has stated in the letter that all these investigating officers should be immediately suspended and their cases should be referred to the concerned DSP for final decision within a month, failing which action would also be taken against these officers.
