The results of the election of 6 members of the standing committee in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have finally been announced. This decision has been taken after about 103 days. In the elections held for 6 seats, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have managed to win three seats each. Mayor Shelly Oberoi has declared the election results on Thursday following the order of the Delhi High Court.

These candidates have won

Among the 3 candidates who have won from the Aam Aadmi Party in the elections to the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) are Raminder Kaur, Mohini Jinwal and Amil Malik. At the same time, the candidates of Bharatiya Janata Party have also given a tough fight and won three seats, by which these seats have been won. These include the names of Kamaljeet Sehrawat, Pankaj Luthra and Gajendra Daral.

Results were pending for a long time

The elections for the standing committee were completed on 24 February itself. The mayor canceled these elections due to the uproar. In fact, there was an uproar in the Municipal Corporation (MCD) regarding the cancellation of a vote. After this the mayor had decided to hold re-election. Bharatiya Janata Party councilors Kamaljit Sehrawat and Shikha had approached the Delhi High Court seeking re-election. The court had stayed the re-election. The matter was heard again on 23 May, in which the court found the election process absolutely fair and ordered the mayor to declare the result of the election of the members of the standing committee.

After these elections, the way has been cleared for the formation of the standing committee. There are a total of 18 members in the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Out of this, 6 members are elected from the House and 12 members are elected from the Ward Committee.
