Delhi MCD: BJP councilors read Hanuman Chalisa in the House, raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram, standing committee election stopped twice

Aam Aadmi Party’s Shaili Oberoi has won the Delhi Mayor election. This was followed by the election of Deputy Mayor in which AAP candidate Aale Mohammad Iqbal defeated BJP candidate Kamal Bagdi. After this, there was the election of the members of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation, due to the delay in which the councilors of the Bharatiya Janata Party started reciting Hanuman Chalisa inside the house. Along with this, slogans of Jai Shri Ram were also raised. BJP councilors alleged that the election of the standing committee was being delayed.

News agency ANI has also shared a video of it, in which corporator of Bharatiya Janata Party is seen reciting Hanuman Chalisa inside the house. During this process, BJP councilors found misuse of phones in the election, while it was banned from the time of election process of Mayor and Deputy Mayor. After this, the BJP’s Standing Committee candidates again demanded to start the election process afresh, but Mayor Oberoi did not do so.

Following which the hue and cry increased and the House was adjourned twice for 15 minutes. On the other hand, Delhi BJP General Secretary Harsh Malhotra, who is looking after the corporation election work on behalf of the BJP party, told that all the three standing committee candidates of BJP have given a written complaint to the mayor’s office objecting to the use of phones in elections. Malhotra has said that it is against the constitutional secret ballot process and BJP demands that the standing committee members be re-elected from the beginning.
