JNU Fire: A fire broke out in the chemistry lab of Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, in which several students suffered burn injuries. The students were immediately taken to AIIMS hospital for treatment. where they are being treated. At present, information about the cause of the fire has not been received. The fire has been reported to the police and fire.

A fire broke out in the chemistry lab of JNU’s School of Physical Sciences on Tuesday due to an electrical short circuit. Due to which some students suffered injuries and internal bleeding due to chemical fumes. After this the students were admitted to AIIMS by their colleagues. There was neither a fire alarm nor fire extinguishers in this institute, due to which the fire could be controlled with the help of the fire department.

At the same time, in this matter, the ABVP JNU unit wrote a letter to the Vice-Chancellor and gave a memorandum, appealing to immediately remove this clutter in science laboratories, make proper arrangements for fire exits and keep fire-resistant cylinders in the right number and maximum places. .

ABVP JNU minister Vikas Patel said that the lives of students should be paramount for the administration. The way science labs are without any proper security arrangements, today any kind of other and even more horrific accident can happen. We have appealed to the administration that by taking immediate cognizance of this, whatever proper methods of fire fighting and rescue can be established, they should be installed in science laboratories as soon as possible.

It may be noted that earlier in 2016, a short circuit in a laboratory at JNU’s Institute of Environmental Sciences on Sunday had caught fire, in which experimental equipment worth several crores had been destroyed. After that proper fire alarm, fire fighting and rescue measures were taken in that institution.
