Prime Minister Narendra Modi (Pm Modi) gifted the first Vande Bharat Express to Northeast India through video-conferencing on Monday, May 29 at 12 noon. This Vande Bharat will go from New Jalpaiguri station in West Bengal to Guwahati in Assam. According to media reports, the Northeast Frontier Railway will officially start from today. The Vande Bharat Express, which is going to be flagged off by PM Modi, will be India’s 18th and Northeast India’s first. The Vande Bharat Express from New Jalpaiguri to Guwahati will cover the distance of 410 kms in about 6 hours. Along with this, it will also be helpful in making the travel of the people easier.

Express will run six days a week

Vande Bharat Express will run six days a week and will stop at six stations only. The stations it will stop at include New Alipurduar, Kokrajhar, New Bongaigaon and Kamakhya, as well as New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati. This train will leave New Jalpaiguri at 6.10 am and reach Guwahati in the afternoon. Vande Bharat Express will return from Guwahati at 4.30 pm and reach Jalpaiguri at around 10.20 pm.

Apart from the Vande Bharat Express, PM Modi will dedicate 182 km of the newly electrified section, which will go a long way in providing high-speed and pollution-free transport. Along with this, Lumding, Assam will also dedicate a newly constructed DEMU shed. This will assist in the maintenance of DEMU rakes running in the region, thereby improving operational viability.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had announced in March last month that Vande Bharat Express will also reach Rangpo in Sikkim by December 2024. The railway network is being expanded to Rangpo and its construction is underway. Also, he informed that at least 14 tunnels and 17 bridges will connect the northeastern state to Bengal through the Sewak-Rangpo railway tracks. He said that this work is expected to be completed by this year.
