Uttarakhand Landslide: Five people died after being buried under the debris of a landslide on the way to Kedarnath in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. These dead include three devotees from Gujarat. Pilgrims were traveling to the holy shrine of Kedarnath in a car when they were hit by boulders falling from a mountain between Phata and Sonprayag. The NDRF had to struggle hard to retrieve the bodies of all these dead.

After getting information about the incident, the team of SDRF and NDRF started the rescue operation, but due to rain, the work was hampered. SDRF officials said five bodies were pulled out from the mangled car when the weather cleared. Also, the officials also informed that the deceased have been identified as Jigar R Modi, Mahesh Desai, Pareek Divyansh from Gujarat and Mintu Kumar and Manish Kumar from Haridwar.

CM Dhami visited Kotdwar

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the rain-affected Kotdwar area. Here a person had gone missing in a landslide a few days ago. The CM has asked DM Ashish Chauhan to work on repairing the broken bridge in Gadighati. He also inspected the bridge over Malan river connecting Kotdwar and Bhabar. Dhami said that the first effort of the state government is to rectify the devastation caused by the monsoon rains and provide relief facilities to the people. Also, he said that whatever damage has been done in the state will be assessed and efforts are on to remove the shortcomings.

According to media reports, so far 58 people have lost their lives and 37 people were injured in different incidents during this monsoon rains. With this, 19 are still missing.
