Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday made it clear that his government would not pay the legal expenses of Uttar Pradesh gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari for fighting the case in the Supreme Court. In a tweet, the Chief Minister said that this money would be recovered from the then Home Minister and Jail Minister of Punjab. At the same time, he said that a fee of Rs 55 lakh would not be given from the Punjab exchequer for keeping UP gangster Ansari in Punjab jail and fighting his case in the Supreme Court.

CM tweeted information

CM Bhagwant Mann tweeted that this money will be recovered from the then Punjab CM Amarinder Singh, Home Minister and Punjab Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. It also said that all their pension and other government benefits would be canceled for non-payment of the amount. In April this year too, Mann had refused to pay the bill for legal aid to Ansari, saying he had raised the bill of Rs 55 lakh to be paid to the lawyers appointed by the previous Congress government of Uttar Pradesh gangster Mukhtar Ansari. The file related to the approval was returned.

Mann had also tweeted at that time that the gangster of UP was kept in Ropar Jail by providing all possible facilities. Mukhtar was not produced in the court even after 48 warrants were issued against him. Expensive lawyers were appointed at an expense of Rs 55 lakh. However, I returned that file.

Mann’s tweet heats up the political atmosphere

The politics of Punjab has heated up after the tweet of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The opposition Congress has expressed strong displeasure over Mann’s tweet. The Congress party said that recently the Bhagwant Mann government had also gone to the Supreme Court (SC) against the Governor. There the Supreme Court gave a decision in favor of the Governor. Even in this case, the tax money of the people of Punjab was spent, so will Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself or his ministers pay for it from their own pockets.
