In future the water of old Bhopal ponds will be used

Bhopal. In future, the water of old Bhopal ponds will be used by the Municipal Corporation for irrigation of trees and plants, washing of vehicles and cleaning. In order to improve the health of Motia Talab, Siddiq Hasan and Munshi Hussain Khan Talab of old Bhopal, an initiative has been started to stop the drains joining them. In these Siddiq Hasan and Munshi Hussain Khan ponds, the water of these ponds had become E-category due to the release of medical waste by the hospitals located here, after which the initiative to rejuvenate these ponds was started. Please inform that in the lockdown, the then Director of MP Pollution Control Board, Vijay Ahirwar had taken samples of both the ponds and found during inspection that medical waste was being released directly by the hospitals in Siddiq Hasan pond. Due to this, Munshi Hussain Khan pond was also being affected. Due to this, instructions were given to install ETPs for the treatment of these medical waste by imposing environmental compensation penalty on the hospitals.

12 ponds were fined:
During the inspection, Ahirwar had given instructions to install ETP on 12 out of 15 ponds built above the pond by imposing fine. At the same time, instead of leaving the sewage of the houses located near the pond in the pond, instructions were issued to connect the toilets of the houses with the sewage line. After this, the hospital operators had installed ETPs in the hospitals and the sewage line was constructed by the Municipal Corporation. This has reduced the pollution in the pond and in future the water of these ponds can be used for works like irrigation and vehicle washing.

The water of these ponds will be used for:
At present, the MP Pollution Control Board has started an exercise to improve the health of Chhote Talab, Shahpura Talab, Siddiq Hasan, Munshi Hussain Khan and Motia Talab in Bhopal. The water of these ponds can be used after 10 years for works like cleanliness, vehicle washing and irrigation. Due to this, the pollution of ground water of Bhopal will also reduce.

It is the duty of every person to protect nature. We should conserve the ponds of our city. If someone pollutes these ponds, then an FIR can be lodged against that person. If conservation is done in scientific ways, then in future the water of these ponds can be used for works like cleanliness.

– Vijay Ahirwar, Former Director MP Pollution Control Board
