A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Women and Child Development and National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), Kundli, Sonipat in the presence of Amneet P. National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) Kundli, Sonipat will provide special support to Haryana Women and Child Development Department for setting up Panjiri Plant at Papaloha village in Panchkula district and Kalayat in Kaithal district. He said work at both plants will begin within next year.

Amneet P. Kumar said that the establishment of the Panjiri plant with the support of NIFTEM will help increase the effectiveness of the nutrition-related efforts of the Women and Child Development Department. He said that the Supplementary Nutrition Program, an important service under ICDS, was introduced to improve the nutritional status of women and children. The department provides supplementary food items, which include various nutritious dishes and panjiri, to the beneficiaries as per the financial norms of the Government of India.

He said the department also distributes fortified panjiri to children aged between 6 and 18 months, including malnourished children. The construction of a new Panjiri facility is necessary to provide clean and nutritious food to the beneficiaries. This partnership will prove very helpful in improving the nutritional status of women and children in Haryana.

The MoU was signed by Monica Malik, Director, Department of Women and Child Development and Chancellor, on behalf of NIFTEM. In the coming period, the Women and Child Development Department will strengthen the government’s efforts not only for the Panjiri plant but also for the eradication of malnutrition. He said that two Panjiri plants were previously operational in Gurugram and Ghoranda in the state. Dr. Komal Chauhan, Head of Food Science and Technology Department, NIFTEM, said that NIFTEM will provide extensive technical support to the Women and Child Development Department to successfully commission the new plant at Panjiri soon. Joint Director (ICDS), Program Officer (Nutrition), various Program Officers of the district, officials of Child Development Department and other staff of Women and Child Development Department were present on the occasion.
