Kurukshetra: 70 farmers fined for setting fire to crop residue

Kurukshetra. In Kurukshetra district, farmers setting fire to crop residues are being monitored via satellite as well as by patwari, village secretary and other officials. Through both mediums, information on crop residue burning has been received at 81 locations in the district so far, including 41 information through Harsek satellite and 40 information through village secretary Patwari. In 70 of these 81 locations, the fire information was found to be accurate. The important aspect is that action was taken against 70 farmers for setting fire to crop residue and a fine of Rs 1 lakh 72,500 was also imposed.

While issuing strict instructions to the agriculture department officials, Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sharma said that all officials and employees will keep a close watch on those who set fire to crop residues and will also ensure that such persons are punished by imposing challans with a be fined. These orders should not be ignored. All officials will maintain vigil in their respective areas to ensure that no one sets crop residues on fire. If a farmer or person sets fire to crop residue, immediate action should be taken. So far, paddy has been harvested from 11,060 acres of basmati and 130,469 acres of non-basmati land in this district. So far, Agriculture Department officials received information about crop residue burning at 81 locations, including 40 cases through various means and 41 cases through HARSEC. Based on this information, it was determined that crop residue lighting claims were accurate in 70 locations. A fine of Rs 1 lakh 72,500 was also imposed on those who set fire at these 70 places.

He said that the state government is providing financial benefits to farmers for crop residue management. A relief amount of Rs 1,000 per hectare will be provided to farmers. More and more farmers should benefit from this regulation. Under the CRM program, IEC activities are continuously organized by the Ministry of Agriculture. Through these activities, farmers are informed in detail about the advantages and disadvantages of not burning crop residues.
