When asked by MP Deepender Hooda, the Indian government in parliament admitted that Haryana sugar cane farmers owed Rs. 266 crore for the 2022-23 harvest season on July 17. Deepender Hooda demanded that the state government immediately pay Haryana’s sugarcane farmers’ contributions plus interest.

He said that due to non-payment of the farmer’s levy, farmers would have to take out loans to feed their families. While during the Congress government under Bhupinder Singh Hooda, immediate payment was secured through the purchase of sugar cane from the peasants. Citing the Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti’s response in Parliament to his question, he questioned the state government’s claims, saying that the claim for payment of the price of sugar cane in 15 days Tue Haryana government should explain why they are not disbursing the money to the farmers even after three months after the mills were closed.

Dipendra Hooda said the Hooda government secured an immediate payment along with the purchase of sugar cane from the farmers. When the sugar cane mills left the government in 2014, they didn’t owe the farmers a penny. Haryana’s BJP-JJP government has proven to be completely anti-agricultural. Today, the peasants of the state feel betrayed. Dipendra Hooda said the BJP’s claim to double farmers’ incomes by 2022 has already failed. He reminded that the price of sugar cane was 317 rupees in 2015-16, which doubles to 634 rupees. Accordingly, the BJP government should at least raise the rate to 634 in order to double the income of sugar cane farmers. But that’s not even conceivable under the current government.
