Haryana Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal inaugurated the five-day CISF Inter-Sector Hockey Championship 2023 at the Hockey Sports Stadium in Sector 42, Chandigarh. This championship runs until September 14 and eight teams from across India are taking part in it. In his inaugural speech, Sanjeev Kaushal said that this championship is a great opportunity for the CISF personnel to showcase their sporting skills. He urged players to play fairly and follow the spirit of the game.

Kaushal also emphasized his personal inclination towards hockey as his father was captain of the Rajputana hockey team six times. He said the women’s team’s participation in the competition sent a strong message of women empowerment. He also praised the women’s ice hockey team, which was among the eight teams that competed in the championship.

He also commented on the evolution of ice hockey, pointing to the notable changes in sports equipment. He said hockey players used to use wooden shin guards or other equipment, but now advanced, lightweight and protective equipment is available.
