The Delhi government has set a target of planting 20 lakh flower saplings in the national capital as part of preparations for the G-20 summit in September. Out of these, 12 lakh saplings will be planted by the Forest and Wildlife Department and the rest by other agencies. An official of the Forest Department said that a large number of cultivated plants of different species of flowers would be planted. The entire exercise will be completed by the end of July. Over 10 lakh attractive potted plants will also add to the beauty of the national capital as it gears up to host the G-20 summit, officials said.

On December 1 last year, took over the presidency of the G-20

Horticulture branches of central and Delhi government departments, including Delhi Development Department, New Delhi Municipal Council, Public Works Department and Municipal Corporation of Delhi, have been asked to decorate public places, roundabouts, major intersections, flyovers and vertical greens. Saplings of exotic flowers will also be planted at various places in Delhi. Special focus will be given to the stretch between Indira Gandhi International Airport and Lutyens Delhi, India Gate area and Pragati Maidan, the main venue of the G-20 summit in Delhi. India took over the presidency of the G-20 on December 1 last year.

The meetings of the summit to be held in September 2023 have already begun. The Group of Twenty consists of 19 countries and the European Union. Its members represent approximately 85 percent of global GDP, more than 75 percent of global trade, and nearly two-thirds of the world population.
