Delhi Mayor: Delhi gets mayor, AAP’s Shelly Oberoi wins

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has won the election for the post of Mayor of Municipal Corporation of Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Dr Shaili Oberoi defeated BJP candidate with a huge margin. Shelly Oberoi got 150 votes. On the other hand, 116 votes for the BJP candidate. Aam Aadmi Party leaders are congratulating Shaili after her victory.

But this important election had to be postponed amid the uproar by the councilors of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Aam Aadmi Party. After three unsuccessful attempts, the stage is now set for elections on the orders of the Supreme Court and Delhi gets a new mayor. After the completion of the election process, AAP’s candidate Shelly Oberoi has won.

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had approved the convening of the meeting of the Corporation House last week. After which the date of election for the posts of mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee was fixed on February 22. The Supreme Court, while hearing the matter, had said that the members nominated by the Lieutenant Governor in the MCD cannot vote.

The Aam Aadmi Party won the majority in the Delhi MCD elections. The party had won 134 out of 250 seats. While BJP had won 104 seats. The Aam Aadmi Party had fielded Shelly Oberoi for the post of Mayor. While BJP made Rekha Gupta as a candidate in the election. Apart from this, BJP has nominated Kamal Bagdi and AAP has nominated Aale Mohammad Iqbal for the post of deputy mayor.
