Hearing on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s appeal in Surat court today.

Surat court will hear the petition of Congress leader and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi in the Modi surname comment case today. Surat’s sessions court had sentenced him to two years’ imprisonment in a defamation case, after which his parliamentary membership was cancelled. On April 3, Rahul Gandhi filed an appeal in the Surat court to stay the conviction. After which Rahul Gandhi was granted bail and the court issued a notice to Purnesh Modi as well as the Gujarat government. Along with this, the court had ordered Purnesh Modi to file his reply on or before April 11.

Purnesh Modi filed the reply

Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Purnesh Modi objected to Rahul Gandhi’s plea in a criminal defamation case, saying Congress leaders repeatedly commit offenses and make statements in a manner that hurts the sentiments of a community. Along with this, Purnesh Modi further said that the manner in which he appeared in the Sessions Court to file an appeal against the order of the Surat Sessions Court shows his arrogance.

Purnesh Modi further said that Rahul Gandhi is trying to put pressure on the court. He had brought many Congress leaders with him to put pressure on the court. Purnesh Modi said that when he came to file the appeal, he created a rally-like situation, which shows how arrogant he is. Rahul Gandhi made such an effort even after the punishment, so that pressure could be created on the court. Along with this, Purnesh said that when the court had given its verdict in the defamation case against Rahul Gandhi, all his leaders had given contemptuous statements.
