These include Section Engineer Mohammad Amir Khan, Senior Section Engineer Arun Kumar Mohanta and Technician Pappu Kumar.

The committee found in the investigation that the main reason for the accident was the wrong signal, in which the negligence of the railway employees was found to be clear. In the report submitted by the Commission of Railway Safety to the Railway Board, it has been said that despite the flaws in the signaling work, the station manager of Bahanga Bazar did not exercise vigilance. Had they reported the ‘repeated abnormal behaviour’ of the switches connecting the two parallel tracks to the Signal and Telecom (S&T) staff, they could have taken remedial steps.

Significantly, on June 2, at around 7 pm, the Coromandel Express collided with a goods train standing on the track near Bahanga Bazar railway station in Balasore district of Odisha. After this, the Yesvantpur-Howrah Superfast Express passing by the side also came under its grip. About 290 people had died in this train accident and more than 1 thousand people were injured. A few days after the accident, the Bahanaga Bazar railway station was also sealed.
