In the midst of ethnic conflict in Manipur, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made several important announcements in a press conference in Imphal, Manipur today. He said that a judicial commission would be constituted to probe the violence. It will be headed by a retired judge of the High Court. This inquiry will be conducted by the Government of India. Shah said that six cases related to the violence would be probed by the Central Investigation Agency (CBI).

Shah made these important announcements in the conference

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in a press conference in Imphal that due to a hasty decision of the High Court (Manipur Violence) on April 29, caste violence between two groups started here. He said that the Manipur government would give a compensation of one lakh rupees to those killed in the violence. At the same time, an equal amount will also be provided as relief from the Central Government. The Government of India will also set up a Peace Committee under the chairmanship of the State of Manipur. It will also include industrialists, sportspersons, elected representatives and representatives of civil society. Several agencies are working to investigate the caste violence in Manipur. However, 6 cases related to this incident will be investigated by the CBI team. Shah said that there will be no shortage of food items in Manipur.

The Union Home Minister said that some violent incidents have come to the fore in Manipur in the last one month. My condolences to all the families who have lost their near and dear ones due to this violence. He said that I have visited several areas of Manipur including Imphal, Moreh and Churachandpur in the last 3 days and also held meetings with several officials to maintain peace in the state. Shah said during the conference that the central government has given 8 teams of medical specialists including 20 doctors to Manipur to provide assistance to the victims of violence in the state. Five teams have already reached here and others will reach shortly. Regarding education also, he said that education officers will also visit the state and find a solution to the problems related to the education of the students. All the students will be taught online and the examination will also be conducted as per the plan.
