Congress will send a team of observers to know the truth about Manipur violence.

Manipur Violence:The Congress has expressed concern over the situation in Manipur following the violence earlier this month. The Congress today decided to send Congressional Observers to ascertain the ground reality of the violence in the state on Wednesday. In this regard, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge met a delegation of party workers on Tuesday evening. Only after this the Congress President has taken this decision.

Congress workers met the party president and apprised him about the current situation in Manipur and the problems faced by the people. After meeting the workers, Kharge expressed concern over the situation in Manipur and said that the central government and the state government should have done everything possible to create peace in the state. The Congress criticized the central and state government over the situation in the state and also demanded imposition of President’s rule there.

Naga and Kuki are opposing Meitei coming to ST

Significantly, Manipur has been burning in the fire of violence since the beginning of this month. The main reason for this is the decision of the Manipur High Court to give Scheduled Tribe status to the Meitei community, which is being opposed by the tribal organizations there. The protest began in Churachandpur district, 63 km from the capital Imphal, where people of the Kuki and Naga tribes live. People here say that the Meitei community is already very prosperous socially and economically. Apart from this, he is also very influential in the politics of Manipur. 40 out of 60 MLAs of the state come from Meitei community only.

Years old law became discord between the two communities

On the other hand the Meitei community has its own logic. He says that in the hilly areas of the state, he cannot buy land, cannot build a house. There is an age-old law behind this. This law has created a deep gulf between the tribals and the non-tribals. Since 90 percent of Manipur is hilly, it is inhabited by minority Naga and Kuki tribals who practice Christianity, while the majority Meiteis, who live in 10 percent of the state’s Imphal Valley, are Hindu. . Apart from this, the Forest Protection Act of the state also became the reason for this violence, which is being opposed by the Nagas and the Kukis.
