Notice issued to Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgan and Shahrukh Khan for promoting Gutkha.

Gutka Ad Case: Tobacco is harmful to health. Mukesh’s advertisement on the screen before the start of the film is mandatory. But it is also being publicized extensively. On this, the Center told the Allahabad High Court that it has sent show cause notices to three top Bollywood heroes who were advertising Gutkha. The Center said that the three top heroes who have received show cause notices include Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan.

Who filed the petition

A lawyer named Motilal Yadav had earlier filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court objecting to the participation of top actors in promotional activities related to harmful products. The petition states that it is inappropriate for people who have received honorary awards from the Government of India to participate in such advertisements. The court hearing the petition ordered the Center to take appropriate action on the objections of the petitioner.

Center issued notice

However, the petitioner once again approached the court and said that no response has been received from the government. The court issued a notice to the Center and sought its reply. In this context, Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey informed the court on behalf of the Central Government. On October 22, show cause notice was issued to Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan.

At the same time, SB Pandey told the court that Amitabh Bachchan has already been avoiding such statements. However, Amitabh said that a gutkha company had aired his advertisement, hence Amitabh sent a legal notice to the said company. Furthermore, Pandey asked the court to dismiss the petition as the matter is already under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court. After hearing the arguments, the court adjourned further hearing on the petition till May 9, 2024.
