Today is the third day of Rail Roko movement.
Rail Stop Movement: The Rail Roko agitation of farmers in Punjab has reached its third day today i.e. on 30th September. Financial assistance for damage caused in recent floods, guarantee of MSP, withdrawal of cases regarding agitation in Delhi. Also, farmers are sitting on the train tracks as part of the Rail Roko movement demanding compensation and jobs for the families of the farmers affected by this. The three-day protest called by farmers under the leadership of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti in Amritsar, Punjab, began on September 28 and will continue till today.
Railway services affected
Talking about the ongoing protest by farmers, Northern Railway General Manager Shobhan Chaudhary said that due to this, the movement of trains has been affected. So far, around 90 mail express trains and 150 passenger trains have been cancelled. He said that we are assessing the situation. Also, Railway officials said that due to the agitation, some trains were cancelled, routes of many others were diverted while some were short-terminated.
According to railway officials, 91 trains were cancelled, 48 short-terminated, five short-originated and 35 diverted under the Firozpur division. He also said that 179 passenger and 14 goods trains were affected. On Friday, farmers also blocked the Chandigarh-Ambala-Delhi national highway for seven hours.
These organizations are demanding
In Punjab, agitation is going on at 20 places including Faridkot, Samrala, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Tarn Taran, Sangrur, Patiala, Ferozepur, Bathinda and Amritsar. Several farmer groups including Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Samiti, Bharti Kisan Union (Krantikari), Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Azad), Azad Kisan Samiti, Doaba, Bharti Kisan Union (Behramke), Bharti Kisan Union (Shaheed Bhagat Singh) and Bharti Kisan Union ( Chhotu Ram) is participating in the protest.
