According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 149 cases of PAM infection have been reported in the United States from 1962 to 2020. Most of these cases have been reported in Texas, Florida and southern states. The maximum number of cases are being reported in Arizona. The most recent case of PAM reported in the United States occurred in 2020 in Florida, where a man died after becoming infected with the brain-eating amoeba. It is said that the person came in contact with this amoeba while swimming in the swimming pool.
