Death of Keshub Mahindra: India’s oldest billionaire and former chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra Keshab Mahindra passed away on Wednesday at the age of 99. His net worth was $1.2 billion. His death comes days after he re-entered the Forbes list of India’s richest billionaires for 2023 with a net worth of $1.2 billion.

Late Keshab Mahindra had joined his father’s company in 1947. Became the chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra in 1963 and stepped down in 2012 after leading the group for 48 years. On 9 August 2012, he handed over the reins to his nephew Anand Mahindra after he retired from his position as the chairman of the Mahindra Group. During the 48 years of his chairmanship, the Mahindra Group expanded from an automobile manufacturer to other sectors such as IT, real estate, financial services and hospitality. He was instrumental in forging business tie-ups with global majors such as Willys Corporation, Mitsubishi, International Harvester, United Technologies, British Telecom and many more.

Pawan Kumar Goenka, former managing director of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, tweeted, “The industrial world has lost one of the greatest personalities today. Mr. Keshav Mahindra was unmatched, the best man I had the privilege of knowing. I always looked forward to MTGS with him and was inspired by the way he combined business, economics and social matters.
