RBI statement

RBI has asked all banks to immediately stop issuing Rs 2,000 notes. The central bank started printing Rs 2,000 notes in November 2016 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had demonetised higher denomination notes of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 overnight. The purpose of introducing Rs 2,000 bank notes was served when adequate quantities of other denominations of bank notes became available, RBI said in a statement. In such a situation, the printing of Rs 2000 notes was stopped in 2018-19.
