Uttarakhand Tunnel Rescue Heroes: You must remember the story of Dashrath Manjhi. Just as his wife Phaguni Devi died after slipping while crossing a mountain, Dasharatha carved a path through that mountain. Similarly, now the mountain has to be cut once again to save 41 laborers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel under construction in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand for the last 17 days. Many people are engaged in the rescue operation to get these laborers out safely. Let us tell you about all those people who are playing an important role like Manjhi in this rescue operation.

NDRF, SDRF, Indian Army, other state and central agencies have been deployed at the site in the rescue operation of 41 workers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel. 41 laborers trapped in the tunnel for the last 17 days can be taken out any time today on Tuesday.

IAS officer Neeraj Khairwal

IAS officer Neeraj Khairwal was appointed the nodal officer of the Silkyara tunnel rescue operation. He has been supervising and commanding the rescue operations for the last 10 days. Khairwal is giving moment-to-moment updates to the CMO and PMO from the rescue site. Khairwal is also a Secretary in the Government of Uttarakhand.

Chris Cooper, micro-tunneling expert

Chris Cooper is a micro-tunneling expert who reached Silkyara in Uttarkashi on November 18. Cooper is a chartered engineer, specializing in civil engineering infrastructure, metro tunnels, large caverns, dams, railways and mining. He is also an international advisor to the Rishikesh Karnaprayag Rail Project.

Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain (Retd), NDRF Member

Syed Ata Hasnain, a retired Lieutenant General of the Indian Army and member of the NDMA team, is overseeing the role of the National Disaster Management Authority in the Uttarakhand tunnel disaster. Lieutenant General Hasnain was formerly the GOC of the Indian Army, 15 Corps, posted in Srinagar.

Arnold Dix, tunneling expert

Scientific researcher and underground tunnel expert Arnold Dix has been at the rescue site for the first few days, monitoring the use of American augers for horizontal drilling of the tunnel. Dix also inspected the rescue site to determine the most effective way to rescue the 41 trapped workers.

Rat Hole Mining Expert

Six rat hole mining experts were called from Madhya Pradesh for micro-tunneling, manual drilling and rescue of trapped workers. Apart from this, along with state and central agencies, local drilling experts, environmental experts, NDRF, SDRF and Indian Army have also been deployed at the site of Uttarakhand tunnel collapse.
