After this he will leave for Delhi late in the evening. Although PM Modi will be in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, but the political implications of his visit and participation in Mirabai Jayanti celebrations are also being explored.

Political meaning of PM’s visit

Actually, Mathura is also close to the border of Rajasthan where assembly elections are being held. Today is also the last day of campaigning for Rajasthan elections. The election campaign for 199 seats of Rajasthan will end at 5 pm. After the campaign is over, PM Modi will be in Mathura bordering the state and the program he will attend is being considered as a clear message for Rajasthan.

The program is of Mirabai’s birth anniversary and Shri Krishna devotee Meera is from Rajasthan. Mirabai was born in Kudki village in Pali district of Rajasthan and married into the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar. Mirabai is a devotee of Shri Krishna and thus fits perfectly into the Hindutva mold of the Bharatiya Janata Party. There is also discussion that PM Modi can also issue a postal stamp in the memory of Shri Krishna devotee Mirabai.
