Caste census in Rajasthan: In view of the upcoming elections in the country, the issue of caste census is being raised vigorously. Even in Rajasthan, BJP and Congress are blaming each other on the caste census. This is the reason that while state CM Ashok Gehlot has described the caste census as a new chapter in providing social justice, BJP MP Rajyavardhan Rathod has called this statement of the CM a distraction.
According to media reports, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot wrote in a tweet this morning that the central government, which is against the underprivileged, is continuously avoiding the caste census. Due to this the concept of social justice is being blocked. He said that the state government has decided that it will conduct caste based survey on its own so that the government can provide benefits of its rights to every needy and schemes can be made as per the needs of different sections.
CM Gehlot further said that Congress had passed a resolution in the Raipur session that along with the decennial census, socio-economic caste census should be conducted. He said that Rahul Gandhi’s thinking is that everyone should get social justice and it is also very important to assess the situation of backward classes. He said that the Rajasthan government has now decided to take important steps towards conducting caste census in the state.

BJP MP Rajyavardhan Rathore reacted to CM Ashok Gehlot’s statement about conducting caste census in the state. He said that this is the policy of CM Ashok Gehlot to divert people’s attention from what is happening in Rajasthan. He (CM Gehlot) makes big announcements and installs big posters… He asked the question why the census conducted in 2011 was not released, now he is talking about a new census. He said that there should be talk of development and not of caste.
