Punjab Politics:Action has been taken against another Congress leader in Punjab. Firozpur police arrested former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira from his house in Zira early on Tuesday. Jeera is accused of forcibly entering the BDPO office with his supporters, disrupting government work and staging a sit-in inside the office. On October 13, a complaint was lodged by the BDPO officer against Jeera and around 80 unidentified people.
Congress leader arrested
Jira had staged a protest inside Surjit Singh’s office from October 10 to 13 to protest against the officer’s biased behavior in carrying out development works of various panchayats. Jira had also alleged corruption in the release of funds to panchayats by the BDPO office. The Congress leader had announced on Monday that he would be arrested on Tuesday afternoon after addressing the public and media.
BDPO officer had given complaint
Let us tell you that on October 10, Jeera had started the protest with the sarpanches of more than 100 villages. On October 13, PPCC President Amarinder Singh Raja Waring also came out in his support and the strike was called off the same evening. After the protest was lifted, the BDPO lodged an FIR against him and 80 unidentified people under sections 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 268 (public nuisance) Was.
While sitting on the dharna, Kulbir Singh Zira had said that during the previous Congress government, a grant of more than Rs 115 crore had come for 116 villages but BDPO is not releasing that old grant. Many sarpanches have done development works and their bills are not being paid. The BDPO office is also demanding cut in release of funds and even new works have been stopped.
