Haryana:Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed happiness over the Supreme Court’s orders regarding SYL, thanked the court and urged the Punjab government to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders.
The Chief Minister said that SYL is the lifeline of Haryana and the right of the people of Haryana. He said that on behalf of the entire people of the state, he warmly thanks the Supreme Court for today’s order and hopes that the Punjab government will implement the orders of the Supreme Court without delay. The chief minister appealed to the central government to immediately complete the survey work of SYL and work towards ensuring that Haryana gets its right which has been pending for years.
He said that Punjab is consuming about 1.9 MAF of Haryana’s water share by not completing the construction work of SYL canal in its area. By providing this water under its right to Haryana, 10.08 lakh acres of land of the state will be irrigated, the state’s thirst will be quenched and lakhs of farmers will benefit. With the availability of this water, the groundwater level, which is falling significantly in southern Haryana, will also improve. He expressed hope that the Punjab government will immediately release its share of water through SYL to Haryana as per the Supreme Court order.
