Rewari: In case a thread remains in the stomach after surgery, the district consumer commission has imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on a doctor, terming it as negligence. The doctor will also have to pay Rs 11,000 to the complainant woman as the cost of the case.

According to the complaint filed with the commission about five years ago, Anju, a resident of Dehlawas, had undergone family planning surgery after having two children. One of his daughters died on July 28, 2016. To have another child, Anju decided to undergo surgery on the advice of the Mission Hospital doctor. On October 3, 2016, she was admitted to Mission Hospital for surgery. After opening the operation, the doctor discharged him from the hospital on October 5th. The doctor assures him that the operation was opened successfully. Now she can get pregnant. The woman then complained of stomach pain for two years. She didn’t even get pregnant. When she went for an ultrasound scan after the doctor’s visit, she was told that the thread had not been removed from her stomach after the operation, which is why she was having problems. After the operation, the patient is recommended to come to the hospital after a few days to have the thread removed, but the doctor at this hospital did not do so, according to the documents.

The General Hospital team had been investigating

After the ultrasound examination, the woman’s husband filed a police report to initiate proceedings against the hospital doctor. The police decided to investigate the case from the general hospital. During the examination, the medical team at the General Hospital had blamed the doctor for leaving the thread in the stomach.

The costs arising from the lawsuit must be paid

The complainant had lodged a complaint with the District Consumer Commission on November 31, 2018 through his lawyer Rajwant Dahinwal. Commission Chairman Sanjay Kumar Khanduja and his member Rajendra Prasad have ordered to pay compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the doctor for negligence in the matter. In addition, the complainant will also have to pay Rs 11,000 as legal costs.
