Kurukshetra. Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana proves to be a boon in strengthening the economic position of fish farmers related to the fishing business. Financial support ranging from 40 to 60 percent was provided under the program.

A spokesman for the fisheries department said fish farming is encouraged in villages in the district where rainwater is stagnant or the land is barren. Farmers’ income increases from fish farming. Shrimp farming yields Rs 5 to 6 lakh per acre. Under the program, the government provides 60 percent subsidies to scheduled box and female fish farmers and 40 percent subsidies to the general category of fish farmers.

He shared that under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana, 60 percent of the scholarships are given to women and scheduled castes of all classes and 40 percent to generals and OBCs. Under this program, applicants can obtain financial and technical support from the department for setting up a fish feed hatchery, constructing ponds, bioflakes, RAS, feed mills, cold stores, etc. on private land or by leasing land.

The department also offers training from time to time while making farmers aware of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and other department programs. Before installing the device, attend training and have soil and water tests performed to ensure the device can be successful.
