News of leopard sightings in Mandhi Hariya village in Badhda sub-division spread like wildfire on social media on Tuesday evening. Due to the message going viral with the photo, an atmosphere of fear was created among people in the area including Mandhi Hariya village. This was reported by the villagers to the forest service and the police. The police also patrolled during the night, but no such case was reported. On the other hand, in the morning, the team from the Forest Service reached the village and thoroughly investigated the matter, then found that through the mischievous elements’ editing of the photo of the village’s road, a leopard was shown inside. The whole thing turned out to be fake.
According to the information, the news of seeing the leopard in Mandhi Hariya village in Badhda sub-division went quite viral on WhatsApp group and Facebook late Tuesday evening. Apart from news of a leopard sitting on the village street, a voice message also went viral saying that at 10am a leopard was seen in Mandhi Hariya village and this photo was taken by his brother of his Handy, don’t consider it a rumor. Despite all of this, people accepted it as true and an atmosphere of fear arose in the area. This was reported by the villagers to the police and the relevant department. After that, the teams reached the spot but could not get correct information due to the late night.
On Wednesday morning, the Forest Service team led by Forest Inspector Pawan Kumar reached Mandhi Hariya village and thoroughly investigated the matter. First reached the place where the photo was taken viral and tried to find footprints etc but nothing was found there. Even when I talked to the villagers about it afterwards, they all refused. Afterwards, after a thorough investigation of the viral message, it turned out that mischievous elements caused panic by spreading fake news by editing the photo.
The rumor monger later apologized and said he would not make such a mistake in the future, while the villagers also apologized and warned the administration not to take action against him. This news was also denied by publishing a letter from the Gram Panchayat. Whether legal action will be taken against the person who spread the rumor has not yet been made clear by the team that was at the scene.
