RRTS Project Funding: The RRTS project includes semi-high speed rail lines connecting Delhi with Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Alwar in Rajasthan and Panipat in Haryana. The Delhi-Meerut route is already under construction as part of this project. At the same time, Delhi government is not giving its share of funds in this. The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure regarding this. The court has said that your advertising budget for 3 years is Rs 1100 crore, but there is no money for important work.

Supreme Court condemned Delhi government for not providing funds for RRDS project. The court has also warned the Delhi government that if the funds are not transferred within a week, it will be directed to transfer the advertising funds of the Delhi government to the RRTS scheme.

On July 24, the Supreme Court had cornered the Delhi government for not giving Rs 415 crore and had said that if this amount is not given then we will put a stop to the budget and confiscate the advertisements of the Delhi government. The Supreme Court said that the project is also necessary to stop pollution. The advertising budget of Delhi government in the last three years was Rs 1100 crore, while this year’s budget is Rs 550 crore. On July 24, the Supreme Court had said that if the Delhi government can allocate Rs 1100 crore for advertising in three years, then funds are also necessary for infrastructure projects.

How many projects are included under Rapid Rail?

The central government wants to connect Delhi with big cities of its surrounding states. At present, there are only rail and road arrangements to reach these cities. Also, the government wants to make arrangements for rapid rail, so that these cities can benefit from increased connectivity with Delhi. There are total 3 RRTS projects. Of these, the first project is between Delhi to Meerut, the second from Delhi to Alwar and the third from Delhi to Panipat. Through these projects, Delhi will be connected to UP, Rajasthan and Haryana.
