Delhi Ordinance: SC to hear on July 10 against Centre’s ordinance, AAP government to burn copies

Delhi Ordinance Row: The Delhi government had approached the Supreme Court against the central government’s ordinance on transfer and posting of Delhi officials. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the petition and listed the matter for July 10. At the same time, regarding the ordinance brought by the Central Government, the workers of Delhi Government and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will burn copies of it at different places, roads and intersections across Delhi.

Supreme Court listed the matter

Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud (Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud) on July 6 said on the Delhi government’s petition that its hearing is listed for July 10. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi urged for listing the petition for urgent hearing. The CJI referred to a separate challenge by the Delhi government against the appointment of the chairman of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission. This petition is to be heard by the Supreme Court on July 11.

AAP government will burn copies of the ordinance

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced to protest against the Centre’s ordinance on deregulation of services in Delhi. The party issued a statement saying that from July 6 to July 13, effigies and copies of the black ordinance would be burnt at different places, roads and intersections of Delhi. Initially, AAP had called off the protest after it approached the Supreme Court saying that the matter was sub judice, but they have decided to protest again now.

The deployment of Delhi Police has been increased in the wake of week-long protests against the Centre’s ordinance. Since the promulgation of this ordinance, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been contacting leaders of non-BJP parties to seek support against it.
