Delhi’s Food and Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Imran Hussain on Monday reviewed the functioning of the Consumer Department, State Consumer Redressal Commission and various District Consumer Commissions of the Delhi government. Speaking on the occasion, Hussain said that adequate infrastructure including additional staff and computers should be provided at the earliest to the Consumer Commissions and Arbitration Cells for their smooth functioning. He said that the Delhi government has started a mediation cell to resolve consumer complaints expeditiously.

Minister Imran Hussain said that protecting the rights of consumers and redressal of their grievances is one of the top priorities of the Arvind Kejriwal government. To fulfill this objective, the Arvind Kejriwal government will provide all possible help to strengthen the necessary infrastructure in all the consumer commissions of Delhi. The meeting was attended by President Justice Dr. Sangeeta Dhingra Sehgal, Director, Special Secretary, DSCRC, besides senior officers of the Consumer Affairs Department of Delhi Government and senior engineers of PWD. In front of the Minister of Consumer Affairs, detailed information was given about the works related to the renovation and infrastructure of the State Consumer Commission and the District Consumer Commission working in Delhi.

Medicine cell started for redressal of complaints

Consumer Affairs Minister Imran Hussain directed the PWD Department to acquire additional space for the smooth functioning of the State Commission and the State and Consumer Affairs Department to set up Mediation Centers in all District Commissions at the earliest. The Minister was informed by the officials of the Consumer Department, Government of Delhi that the work of medicine has been started for the redressal of consumer complaints by appointing mediators in the medicine cell.

Review of pending cases in Consumer Commission

Reiterating the Kejriwal government’s commitment to protect consumer rights, Consumer Affairs Minister Imran Hussain also reviewed the pending cases in the Consumer Commission and urged that pending and backlogged cases be expedited to protect consumer rights. be dealt with Presently the District Consumer Commissions are working at full capacity in different parts of Delhi.
