Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inspected Okhla’s landfill site for the first time after the political tussle over Delhi’s liquor scam and the arrest of Delhi’s Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the matter. Delhi Mayor Shaili Oberoi was also present with him during this inspection. Along with this, he announced that the garbage of the landfill site will be disposed of by December next year, which means that the mountain of garbage will be eliminated as soon as possible.

According to media reports, Kejriwal, who reached the Okhla landfill site, said that 40 metric tonnes of waste has accumulated at the site here. Out of this, 20 to 25 metric tonnes of garbage has been removed. Kejriwal said that earlier our main target was to dispose of this garbage mountain by May, but due to some reason it may take some more time to dispose of it. It will be settled by December next year.

Delhi CM Kejriwal said that about four and a half thousand tonnes of garbage is being disposed of. This work will start picking up pace from April 1 and 10,000 tonnes of garbage will be disposed of every day. At the same time, 15 thousand tonnes of garbage will be removed every day from June 1. Along with this, a big plant will be constructed here, which will help in disposal of garbage.

How much garbage is accumulated at all the three landfill sites

According to the MCD report, around 20.36 million tonnes of waste is still lying at the three landfill sites in Delhi and the government aims to eliminate all three mountains of garbage by December next year. The Okhla landfill site had 40 lakh tonnes of waste lying around, out of which 25.2 lakh tonnes of waste has been disposed of. Along with this, 80 lakh metric tonnes of garbage is lying at the Bhalswa landfill site, out of which 28.2 lakh metric tonnes of garbage has been disposed of so far. Whereas, 140 lakh tonnes of garbage is lying at Ghazipur Ghazipur landfill site, out of which 22.4 lakh tonnes of garbage has been disposed of.
