The Mayor of Delhi Dr. Shaili Oberoi is to visit Brisbane, Australia to attend the ‘Asia Pacific Cities Summit-2023’. This summit is to be held from 11 to 13 October. In this regard, a proposal was sent to the MCD commissioner on behalf of the Delhi Mayor’s office on June 15. From where following the proper procedure, the file was sent to the Chief Secretary through the Urban Development Secretary, but after that the constitutional system was not followed by the Chief Secretary. Instead of sending the file to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Secretary sent it directly to the LG.

At the same time, the file was returned by the LG’s office after registering an objection in this regard, because the proper procedure was not followed. Also instructions were given that the file should be sent through proper channel only. On behalf of the LG office, it was said that the Lieutenant Governor has observed the proposal and said that this proposal should be presented again through the Chief Minister. It is clear from this that the Chief Secretary is not following the constitutional system and is sending the files directly to the Lieutenant Governor.

More than 1 thousand people will gather in Asia Pacific Cities Summit-2023. It will be attended by mayors, policy makers, business leaders, startups, young leaders and industry professionals. This summit will be on the theme ‘Saving Cities for Our Future’ which can prove to be very beneficial for MCD. In this, the mayor’s office has also proposed to accompany an MCD officer. But this proposal has got stuck due to the Chief Secretary not following the constitutional system. Even after passing of more than one and a half month, the file has not been approved by the LG.
