58 hostels are run by the Tribal Welfare Department in Raipur district. Of these, there are 13 hostels which are being run in rented buildings for 23 years. Now the department has started preparations to provide the facility of four new girls hostels in January 2024. To build it, the government has approved Rs 6 crore 31 lakh 46 thousand in 2021-22. Since then, the department has started getting the agency to construct fully equipped hostels equipped with CC cameras.

Being the capital of the state, Raipur has made a place as an education hub. In view of this, tribal students from different districts come for higher education. The government provides them education as well as housing facilities under various schemes. The responsibility for this has been given to the Tribal Welfare Department. Which is also providing accommodation and study facilities to the students on the basis of applications received from different districts. For this, the department is running 58 hostels in the district itself.

Of these, there are 13 hostels which are being run in rented buildings due to lack of facilities. Its department also pays rent of Rs 2 to 3 crore every year. To get rid of this, the government has given financial approval for the construction of four new buildings. After this, the department officials came into action and finalized the construction process by appointing an agency and have now intensified their efforts to get rid of rented buildings in January.

Construction going on at these places

The department had started the work of Pre-Matric Scheduled Caste Girls Hostel Mandir Hasaud, new Pre-Matric Scheduled Caste Girls Hostel Sarora and Scheduled Caste Girls Ashram Arang in 2021 itself. Their work is at its final stage. In view of this, the department has started preparations for shifting of hostels to these new buildings in January. Apart from this, the department has also instructed the agency to speed up the construction of Scheduled Caste Girls Ashram Kosrangi. In each hostel under construction, 50-50 girl students will be provided accommodation.

This facility will be available in hostels

All girls hostels will have 10 rooms each. Apart from these, kitchen for cooking, hall for eating, parking as well as toilet are also being constructed. For the safety of the girl students living in these hostels, the department will also install CCTV cameras, so that they can be protected from any untoward situation. These cameras will also help the department in curbing the arbitrariness done by the hostel operators. On receiving complaints, these cameras will be checked from time to time by the department officials.

construction within the school premises

Due to lack of buildings for running hostels with the department, at present the facility of girls hostels is being provided in private buildings around the schools. Now, after getting funds to build hostels, they are being built in the school premises itself. This will also strengthen the system from security point of view. The boundary will be created by constructing the girls hostel in a systematic manner, completely different from the school system. In this, entry of other people studying in the school will also be prohibited. Apart from school hours, girl students will be able to go out only after getting permission.
