Punjab Government VS Governor: The Supreme Court on Friday, i.e. today, warned Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit about the delay in approving the bills passed by the Assembly. The court said that you are playing with fire. This is democracy. Bills passed by public representatives cannot be put on hold. Also said that you cannot say that the assembly session itself was wrong. The Solicitor General present in the court on behalf of the Center said that all the bills will be cleared within a week.

Supreme Court said- unhappy with the deadlock between the Governor and the government

The Supreme Court said that how can the Governor say that the Bill which has been passed cannot be given assent because the Assembly session is invalid. You realize the seriousness of what you are doing. You are playing with fire. The court further said that democracy has to work in the hands of the Chief Minister and in the hands of the Governor. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by the Punjab government accusing the Governor of suppressing seven key bills. The CJI said that our country is following established traditions and there is a need to follow them.

In the last hearing, the Supreme Court had asked the Governors and Chief Ministers to do some introspection to resolve such issues. The Supreme Court had expressed displeasure over governors keeping key bills on hold until state governments approached the apex court for intervention.
