Karnataka: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called an important meeting in Karnataka today. It has been a long time since the assembly elections in the state and till now the party was stuck in a state of confusion regarding the Leader of the Opposition (LOP). However, today the party can seal the name of its opposition leader. The session of the Legislature is starting from 3rd July. In the Karnataka Assembly Election on 13 May, the Congress won the largest vote share and 135 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party got only 66 seats.

Consensus will be made on the name of Leader of Opposition in the meeting

Party leaders said that the selection of the Leader of the Opposition is usually done immediately after the election results, but it took a long time to reach a consensus because of the differences within the BJP. Prominent personalities including state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel, Karnataka in-charge Arun Singh and Central Parliamentary Board member BS Yediyurappa will attend the meeting.

The names of these leaders are included in the race

According to media reports, several names are being considered for the role of Leader of the Opposition (LOP), such as Basavaraj Bommai, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, Ashwathnarayan, V Sunil Kumar and R Ashok. Besides these leaders, Srinivasa Pujari, Tejaswini Gowda and Chaluvadi Narayana Swamy are possible candidates for the Legislative Council. The ruling Congress has raised many questions regarding the delay in the election of the LoP by the Bharatiya Janata Party. At the same time, the Congress also alleged that infighting is continuing in the party.

Meanwhile, the ruling Congress in Karnataka is implementing important schemes like free travel for women and free rice for people below the poverty line and registrations for free electricity are also seeing a rise. The BJP is eagerly waiting for an opportunity to gain momentum through the ongoing debate on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the country.
