Joshimath Sinking: Natural calamities have been causing havoc in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath for a long time. It had started about 43 years ago, but the government did not take any concrete step to stop it, due to which people in Joshimath are suffering today. The disaster has forced thousands of people to leave their homes and live in camps. The biggest reason for this devastating natural disaster is being attributed to the NTPC tunnel being built in Joshimath. Scientists have submitted the investigation report in this matter.

A three-member team was constituted by Sridev Suman Uttarakhand University to study the natural disaster in Joshimath. After this, after studying the matter thoroughly, the team has submitted its report to the Vice-Chancellor of the University. According to the report, this disaster is being seen due to the tampering with the natural structure of Joshimath.

S.K. Nautiyal told that there are many reasons for the natural disaster in Joshimath. The area has been glaciated for a long period of time, due to which large boulders have been deposited that have broken off from the glacier. There is a huge reservoir of underground water under Joshimath. Due to the construction of NTPC tunnel, leakage had occurred in this underground water reservoir. This leakage has become a major reason for the disaster. Along with this, it has been said in the report that the geological structure on which Joshimath is situated, is also a major reason for the excessive construction in that area.

It was told that there should have been a ban on construction above 28 feet in the area, but 8-storey buildings are built here. The team has also given many important suggestions in its report to deal with this disaster. Now the University will hand over this report prepared on Joshimath to the Governor, Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Disaster Management.
