Cyclone Mocha: There is a danger of cyclonic storm in many states of the country. Cyclonic storm Mocha started knocking due to the low pressure area being formed in the southeast of the Bay of Bengal. According to IMD, today this Mocha storm can take a terrible form. States affected by this storm have issued advisory for their citizens. On the other hand, scientists say that in the coming days, cyclonic storm Mocha may also move towards north-northwest.

The India Meteorological Department said the low-pressure area concentrated into a depression with wind speed of 45 to 55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph over southeast Bay of Bengal on Tuesday evening. The weather system will intensify into a deep depression on Wednesday and Cyclone Mocha will hit in full force in the next 12 hours. Under the influence of a cyclonic storm, wind speed may reach 80-90 kmph and gusting to 100 kmph.

According to the information received from the Meteorological Department, the cyclone Mocha forming over the Bay of Bengal is likely to turn into a very severe storm by Friday, May 12, where the wind speed can reach 130 kmph. The cyclonic system is expected to move north-northwestwards initially and later towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts.

Preparations completed to fight the cyclone

Amidst the possibility of a cyclonic storm, the state governments of West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha have made preparations. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and administration have been put on alert. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea. Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that people need not fear the cyclone as the state government is prepared to handle the situation. CM Banerjee said, if different circumstances arise, we will rescue people from the coastal areas, as the cyclone will move to Bangladesh and then to Myanmar.

Chance of rain in these states

The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall at most places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during May 9 to 11. Under the influence of Mocha, Northeast India is likely to record heavy rainfall during the weekend. Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Tripura and Mizoram on 13th May and heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places on 14th May.
