Manipur Violence: A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Monday regarding the violence that had erupted in Manipur for the past several days. During this, the Center and the State Government should inform the Supreme Court about the latest situation in Manipur. After the order of the court, the CM of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, in a press conference, told the full figure of the damage caused by the violence.

The Chief Minister told that on May 3 in the state violence 60 innocent people lost their lives in the incident. Along with this, 231 people have been injured and about 1700 houses have been gutted. He said that he appeals to the people of the state to maintain peace, work is being done to take the stranded people to safe places.

On the other hand, the Manipur government informed the court about the latest situation and said that no incident of violence has come to light in the state since two days. Curfew has also been relaxed for today and tomorrow. A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice PS Narasimha and Justice JB Pardi Vala heard the matter.

Incidents of violence took place in Manipur on May 3 following rallies taken out to protest against the demand for the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribes (ST). Last Wednesday, violence broke out between tribals and non-tribals in several towns of the state. Houses were set on fire and shops were ransacked. Properties were damaged and hundreds were shifted to safer places. After this, the government had to take action and ban mobile internet services and impose section 144 in violence affected areas. Along with this, curfew was imposed in many parts of the state. The violence increased so much that the government was even issued shoot-at-sight orders against the rioters.
