Supreme Court gave advice to LG and Kejriwal government regarding Chief Secretary.

Centre-Delhi Tussle: Who will be the new Chief Secretary of Delhi? There is a tension going on between the Delhi Government and the Lieutenant Governor regarding this question. The officers who are approved by Chief Minister Kejriwal are not with LG VK Saxena. The matter has reached the Supreme Court. During the hearing in this case on Friday, the Supreme Court has given advice to the state government and the Lieutenant Governor.

Supreme Court’s advice

The Supreme Court directed that both the parties should sit and properly discuss the shortlist of candidates to be given by the Center on Tuesday. The present Chief Secretary of Delhi, Naresh Kumar is going to retire this month. Delhi government has filed a petition in the court against extending the tenure of Naresh Kumar or appointing a new officer by the Centre. Kejriwal government said that such appointments cannot be made without talks.

What argument did the lawyer of Delhi and Central Government give?

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, appearing in the court on behalf of the Delhi government, said that the Chief Secretary is always appointed by the Delhi government. Now there is a general ordinance. What I am objecting to is the unilateral decision of the Lieutenant Governor. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre, mentioned the Delhi Services Bill. He said that the Union Home Ministry had made appointments even before the amendment in the Delhi Services Bill.

Name should not be made public – Supreme Court

The central government is likely to present the names of the officers before the court on Tuesday. The court also asked both the parties that these names should not be made public on social media, as it could have an adverse effect on their careers. Along with this, after the comment of the Supreme Court, now the Central Government will tell the name to the court for the post of Chief Secretary of Delhi. Along with this, the Supreme Court said that why Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor Vinay Saxena do not sit together and find a solution in this matter.
