Covid 19 Cause Conjunctivitis Risk In Infants: Due to the sub-variant XBB.1.16 of Omicron, there was an increase in the cases of Kovid-19 in India. The frequent mutations in the corona virus have increased everyone’s concern. New research on the corona virus has shown that the new XBB.1.16 variant is increasing the risk of conjunctivitis in children under one year of age. A study was led by Vipin M. Vashisht, a member of the Vaccine Safety Net of the World Health Organization (WHO). Explain that this study was based on 25 children seen in the OPD of a pediatric hospital in Uttar Pradesh. M. Vashisht wrote in his study that more problems are being seen in infants than in older children.

Increased risk of conjunctivitis in infants

M. Vashishtha further said, the study found that 42.8 percent of the infants had non-purulent conjunctivitis in the eyes with mucoid discharge and itchiness along with stickiness of the eyelids. The matter of relief here is that none of the children required hospitalisation. All the children recovered with symptomatic treatment. Vashishtha while explaining about the Covid cases on Twitter said that the current Covid (covid 19) outbreaks causing only a mild fever lasting 1-3 days. However, infants were more likely to have respiratory problems, and the youngest case at the hospital was a 13-day-old newborn.
