UP Politics: Dara Singh Chouhan on Monday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, two days after resigning as Samajwadi Party MLA. He joined the saffron party at around 12 noon in the presence of both the deputy chief ministers and the state party chief. A day before resigning from the post of SP MLA, Chouhan had also held a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in Delhi.
Remain part of Yogi cabinet
Dara Singh Chouhan was part of the cabinet in the state government led by CM Yogi from 2017 to 2022. He was the cabinet minister for Forest, Environment and Animal Husbandry and later resigned. He relinquished the post before the assembly elections on 12 January 2022. Pradeep Dubey, Principal Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, issued a statement saying that Chauhan, MLA from Ghosi in Mau district, had submitted his resignation to Speaker Satish Mahana. Dara Singh Chouhan refused to divulge the reasons for which he had to resign. He did not give the reason for leaving the post in his resignation.

Political career of Dara Singh Chauhan
Dara Singh Chouhan was born on 25 July 1963 in Azamgarh district. He started his career with Bahujan Samaj Party. He became a Rajya Sabha member for the first time in 1996 and for the second time in 2000. He won the 2009 general election as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from Ghosi Lok Sabha constituency. However, in 2015, he joined the BJP and contested and won the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from the Madhuban Legislative Assembly. Chauhan was a cabinet minister in the UP government from 2017 to 2022. In January 2022, he left the hem of the Bharatiya Janata Party. After this he joined SP and also became MLA from Ghosi seat. He is a prominent OBC face in Uttar Pradesh politics.
