Baijnath Aggarwal passes away: Baijnath Agarwal, trustee of Geeta Press, Gorakhpur, has passed away at the age of 90. He was associated with Geeta Press Trust in the year 1950. He breathed his last at the age of 90 on Friday night at his Hariomnagar residence in Civil Lines of the city. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed condolence on his death.

CM Yogi expressed grief

CM Yogi Adityanath posted on social media platform X that the demise of Baijnath Aggarwal, trustee of Geeta Press, Gorakhpur, is extremely sad. As a trustee of Geeta Press for the last 40 years, Baijnath’s life has been dedicated to social awareness and the well-being of people. The society has suffered a deep loss due to his demise. May Lord Shri Ram give place to the departed soul at His feet and give strength to the bereaved family members and the entire Geeta Press family to bear this immense sorrow.

Geeta Press honored with Gandhi Peace Prize this year

The Center earlier this year awarded the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 to Geeta Press, Gorakhpur. The Gandhi Peace Prize is an annual award instituted by the Government of India in 1995 on the occasion of his 125th birth anniversary as a tribute to the ideals espoused by Mahatma Gandhi. The award carries a sum of Rs 1 crore and a citation.

The jury headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on June 18, 2023, after much deliberation, had decided to select Geeta Press, Gorakhpur as the recipient of the Gandhi Peace Prize for the year 2021 for its immense contribution in the social and economic fields. Geeta Press, established in 1923, is one of the world’s largest publishers, having printed 41.7 crore books in 14 languages. Among these there is also 16.21 crore Shrimad Bhagavad Geeta.
